Seven Days to Change Your Mind
Transform
Day 2: Replacing Criticism with Encouragement
1 Thessalonians 5:11 (NKJV)
Therefore comfort each other and edify one another, just as you also are doing.
Devotion :
The enemy sows critical thoughts to divide us, focusing our hearts on faults rather than God’s goodness. Yet, Scripture calls us to renew our minds (Romans 12:2) and speak words that edify and comfort others. Today, we fight back by pausing to pray when criticism arises, turning our hearts to gratitude, and speaking encouragement. Prayer realigns us with God’s perspective, and words of affirmation build up those around us (Proverbs 18:21). By intentionally choosing to lift others up, we strengthen our marriages and community, standing firm against the enemy’s schemes. Whether married or single, God has placed people in your life to bless. Let’s commit to prayerful gratitude and encouragement today, transforming our minds for His glory.
Challenge for Today:
When a critical thought about your spouse arises today, stop immediately and pray for 5 minutes, asking God to reveal their strengths and His love for them. Then, share a specific word of encouragement with your spouse, either spoken face-to-face or written in a note (e.g., “Your faithfulness to our family shows God’s heart”). Spend a total of 30 minutes in prayer, filled with gratitude and positive affirmations over your spouse (e.g., “Lord, thank You for their kindness; I speak strength over them”). Reflect tonight: How did prayer shift your perspective? Write the encouragement in a journal.
Challenge for Today (Singles and Non-Participating Spouses):
When a critical thought about someone in your church community (a friend, family member, or mentor) surfaces today, stop and pray for 5 minutes, asking God to show you their value in His eyes. Then, share a specific word of encouragement with them, either spoken directly or written (e.g., a text: “Your generosity at church blesses us all”). Spend a total of 30 minutes in prayer, expressing gratitude and speaking positive affirmations over that person (e.g., “Lord, thank You for their joy; let it shine”). Reflect tonight: How did prayer change your heart? Jot down the moment to track God’s work.
